How I Work

My work with every client is a little different because it’s tailored to each person’s individual situation and needs. However, my general process is consistent — one that’s helped me help others for more than 20 years.

Method 1 – Organizing for DIY Paper Management

For general organizing, it’s helpful for me to understand something of a client’s home and lifestyle. Even if the plan is that I’ll help out on an ongoing basis (more on that below), we can accomplish more together if I start with a sense of your living spaces and how things are organized now.

For general organizing then, at our first meeting, we’ll take 1/2 hour at no charge for a client to walk me through problem areas of the house and explain where papers stack up. Be assured that I’ll listen to what you’d really like to accomplish and never be judgmental. This first meeting is also a chance for you to meet me and ask questions.

After that, for the next three hours, we’ll dig in and make an immediate, dramatic, physical difference in one area of your home, sorting and filing and setting up systems to help you maintain order easily and naturally.

Method 2 – Organizing via Handoff/Return

While the method described above works well for general organizing, sorting and processing paperwork related to healthcare and medical claims or getting documents ready for tax preparation is generally more complex.

With these engagements, it’s best that I process papers in my home office, making phone calls as needed and working without distraction.

For this method, I still meet with clients first so that we can both ask questions and I can get a clear understanding of each person’s wants and needs. They then hand off papers to me, I process them, calling or emailing with questions as needed, then return everything clearly annotated and organized with “next steps” clearly flagged.

First Hour Free

Whichever approach you’re looking for (or even if you don’t yet know), the first hour we meet is free. This is mostly a time for questions and answers and getting to know each other.

After the first hour, if you’re undecided you can always get back in touch with me at a later date, or, if you’re ready to go, we can get started right away!
